The hope is to be able to create more site in less time.
There must be an easier way.
Navajo rugs are woven from wool. If you like rugs made with hand-spun wool from the weaver's own sheep, they will attract moths. This isn't a problem if you put them in the freezer for a few days every for couple of months, because the cold kills the moth larva.
Moth balls were the standby when we packed ours away 30 years ago. However, they are less popular today. The smell is hard to remove and many people will not buy a rug that was stored this way. We will test a variety of ways to remove the smell.
This was more popular when Navajo Rugs were floor rugs; before they turned into wall art!
Being on the floor exposed them to damage from cat or dog hair and urine, as well as spills of various kinds.
That said, the pressure of footsteps and the vibration which moth larva are sensitive to keeps these floor rugs free of moth damage.
There are companies that specialize in cleaning Navajo and other rugs. They can repair and remove stains at the same time. If the rug has sufficient financial or sentimental value to justify the cost, this is the way to go.
Of course, when you get the rug back from the service you will still have to inspect it for moths regularly.
